Your Youngstown Symphony Orchestra announces change to October 5 Concert

YOUNGSTOWN, OH (October 2, 2024): The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra (YSO) announces a change to its upcoming concert scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024, in Powers Auditorium at the DeYor Performing Arts Center. Due to unforeseen circumstances Music Director Sergey Bogza, is unable to be with the Orchestra this weekend. In Maestro Bogza’s absence, the orchestra will welcome guest conductor Edward Leonard of Pittsburgh to lead the concert.

While it is unfortunate that Maestro Bogza is unable to conduct on Saturday, the orchestra is grateful to have Edward Leonard, a talented and experienced conductor, step in to conduct the concert. Edward Leonard, born in Charleston, South Carolina, studied violin starting at age four and later studied piano. He holds a Bachelor’s in Piano Performance from the College of Charleston and a Master’s in Orchestral Conducting from Carnegie Mellon University.

Now residing in Pittsburgh, Leonard has conducted various ensembles, including the Pittsburgh Philharmonic, the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, and founded The Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh. Leonard is also active with youth orchestras, including the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Chamber Connection at Chautauqua Institute.

Saturday’s concert will feature a captivating program that includes pieces from Rachmaninoff, Gershwin, and Queen and features piano soloist Ilya Yakushev. The YSO remains committed to providing an exceptional musical experience and believes that Edward Leonard’s expertise will bring a unique interpretation to the works being performed.

“We are looking forward to an inspiring evening of music, and we appreciate the understanding and support from our patrons, musicians, and the community,” said Matt Pagac, Chief Executive and Operating Officer of the Youngstown Symphony Society.
