Your Youngstown Symphony Orchestra Announces 2023/2024 Season

YOUNGSTOWN, OH (Thursday, July 28, 2022) – Your Youngstown Symphony Orchestra announces its 2023/2024 season. Past season subscribers will have the first chance to secure their seats, season renewals are available now. New season subscriptions as well as individual tickets will go on sale July 7 at 10:00 am.

Your Youngstown Symphony Orchestra’s (YSO) 2023/2024 Season will feature six concerts; all included in the season subscription. The upcoming season will feature a variety of programming that has been designed to entice new audience members as well as delight its long-standing patrons. The blend of exceptional guest conductors and artists with the excellence of Your Youngstown Symphony Orchestra musicians is sure to produce a season full of exciting and memorable live concerts.

Guest conductor Erik Ochsner will return this season after his Youngstown debut last October during the two-show run of Ghostbusters in Concert. Two new guest conductors will take the podium; Lawrence Loh (Symphoria) and Francisco Noya (Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra). While the search for a music director continues, the Youngstown Symphony Society’s goal remains the same, to engage with the audience and orchestra on and off the stage through community engagement events, as well as design programming to grow the audience.

Season subscription renewals are available now for past subscribers. New season subscriptions and individual tickets will go on sale on Friday, July 7. Previous Season Subscribers will have the opportunity to renew their previous seats for the 2023/2024 season through the box office until August 21. Season Subscriptions range from $100 to $220 plus fees and include all six concerts. Individual tickets range from $13-$63 plus fees depending on the concert and pricing tier. Additional benefits for Season Subscribers include free parking for all events at the DeYor Performing Arts Center as well as discounted tickets to Ballet Western Reserve’s The Nutcracker and Opera Western Reserve’s Carmen.

Your Youngstown Symphony Orchestra 2023-2024 Season

The season will open in Powers Auditorium on Thursday, September 21 at 7:30 pm with Thorgy Thor and the Thorchestra. Thorgy Thor is a classically trained musician known for her vibrant and exciting stage presence. Thorgy is an NYC-based drag performance artist, event host, TV personality, and professional musician who has had the honor of playing solo violin, viola, and cello with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Nova Scotia, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, and others. Thorgy will join guest conductor Lawrence Loh and Your Youngstown Symphony Orchestra for a night that is sure to be memorable.

As the weather gets colder, Powers Auditorium will get hotter as Latin Fire erupts from the stage. Guest Conductor Francisco Noya will lead Your YSO through a dazzling pops concert full of Latin flare on October 14, 2023, at 7:30 pm.

Celebrate the holiday season at the DeYor Performing Arts Center with a true holiday favorite on December 22 and 23. The beloved comedy classic Home Alone features a charming and delightful score by renowned composer John Williams. Guest conductor Erik Ochsner will lead your Youngstown Symphony Orchestra through the Oscar® nominated score as the film plays on a giant screen. Hilarious and heart-warming, Home Alone is holiday fun for the entire family!

For his second concert of the season, guest conductor Lawrence Loh, has prepared a concert to stimulate audience members. The classic works will resonate throughout the Concert Hall at Stambaugh Auditorium on January 21, 2024, at 2:30 pm. Loh currently serves as the Music Director of Symphoria, previously known as the Syracuse Symphony. Loh helped to build a new model of a modern symphony orchestra transforming Syracuse into a more sustainable and artistic institution.

Last season, Guest Conductor Erik Ochsner led the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra in three core pieces of the classical repertoire, Strauss, Mozart, and Mahler. On March 10, 2024, at 2:30 pm Ochsner will share his program Unknown & Gorgeous: River & Iron in the Concert Hall at Stambaugh Auditorium. The program draws on connections to Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley while honoring Ochsner’s Finnish-American roots.

What better way to close the 2023/2024 Season than with hometown favorites The Vindys! The Vindys meet Your Youngstown Symphony on April 26, 2024, at 7:30 pm in Powers Auditorium. Their unique alt-rock sound blended with Your YSO is sure to produce an unforgettable experience. Lead vocalist, Jackie Popovec (Canfield), will belt the band’s moody lyrics with her soulful voice backed by bandmates and of course Your Youngstown Symphony Orchestra.
