![]() The consummate musician - conductor, composer, arranger - Randall Craig Fleischer is an innovator in world music fusion, an advocate for education and a proponent of collaboration. Throughout the 2007-2008 John M. and Doris S Andrews Masterworks Series, Mr. Fleischer and the orchestra will welcome returning artists and greet new friends. Youngstown favorite Richard Stoltzman performs Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in February and in March, Van Cliburn gold medalist Olga kern, returns to perform Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto. At the October season opener concert, Rachel Barton Pine makes her debut with the orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s dazzling Violin concerto.
Also during the Masterworks Series, the orchestra will greet colleague Harold Robinson, Principal Double Bassist at the Philadelphia Orchestra, in John Deak’s “Jack and the Beanstalk”. In January and again in May, we rejoice in the power of the human voice to carry a story. Jubilant Sykes performs a collection of folksongs and spirituals at the orchestra’s January Americana program. The orchestra and Randall Craig Fleischer will conclude the Masterworks Series in May with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and soloists from the Metropolitan and New York City Opera companies in Beethoven’s exhilarating Ninth Symphony. During the John W. and Dorothy B Ford Pops Series, Mr. Fleischer and the orchestra will present a variety of musical genres. The November season kick off presents symphonic swing with Big bad Voodoo Daddy. In December we celebrate a holiday musical extravaganza with Walt Disney’s Little Mermaid Jodi Benson, dancers from Ballet Western Reserve, a children’s choir from the City of Youngstown schools, Easy Street Productions’ Little Rascals and Kenny Eldridge and the Jesus Celebration Singers. In February, the orchestra welcomes Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee Ben E. King and in April the King of Latin jazz, Poncho Sanchez. |
